The research carried out by the Institute requires its staff to be constantly trained to innovate and implement necessary technologies. There are many challenges: to strengthen cutting-edge expertise, to support changes in practices and tools, to train new entrants quickly, to encourage collaboration between professions and to take account of the technical constraints of each one. Another objective is to support research personnel in the development of new scientific project management practices, for example by organising actions on project management or product insurance.
IN2P3 has a very active continuous training policy with the organisation of about ten technical ANFs (National Training Initiatives) per year. These are carried out in close collaboration with networks of business experts.
IN2P3 also provides strong support for the running of high-level scientific schools, particularly by supporting thematic schools in its discipline.
Access to the network of documentalists, publication databases and the Institute's photo library.
IN2P3 DEMOCRITE network of documentalists has developed a scientific and technical information (STI) policy that offers shared services for the whole community.
The HAL multidisciplinary open archive is intended for the deposit and distribution of research level scientific articles, published or not, and theses. These emanate from French or foreign teaching and research institutions and both public and private laboratories.
Atrium is a documentary platform that is widely used in laboratories and by IN2P3 management. It is accessible to all members of the Institute to store, manage and archive their documents securely.
IN2P3 photo library is a database of images from laboratories. It is managed by the laboratory communication correspondents and the Institute's communication cell, providing everyone with the visual resources they need for their work.
This allows access to the Institute's networks of experts, cross-disciplinary R&D, project management, quality and systems engineering, as well as to technological news related to research in nuclear and particle physics.
IN2P3's 'Tech News' is the showcase for the technical expertise from the Institute's laboratories. The objective is to share our developments, achievements and scientific results obtained through detectors and instrumentation designed and produced by the technical groups of the Institute's laboratories.
Skills and professional expert networks: The Institute encourages the emergence of networks of experts around the main families of detectors and associated transverse techniques. These must meet the technological challenges of future experiments.
List of the Institute networks and associated expertise
Transversal R&D: The Institute supports technological R&D projects to overcome technical obstacles in the fields of detection, instrumentation, electronics, mechanics, computer science or any other multidisciplinary area. These projects are called 'transversal R&D' and are proposed by teams of engineers and researchers. They involve several of the Institute's laboratories. They are supported for a maximum of three years. The objectives are clearly defined and focus on instrumental issues affecting different scientific fields at IN2P3.
Project management and quality: The project teams are supported from within the Institute through the provision of project management tools, the organisation of national training activities (ANF) and support for the operation of several thematic networks.
Chaque année l'IN2P3 sélectionne une quarantaine de propositions de financement de doctorants et posdoctorants dans les projets prioritaires de l'institut. En 2022 ces « Fellowships des deux infinis » ont été attribués aux projets suivants :

IN2P3 national communication group accompanies all initiatives aiming to increase the visibility of the Institute research activities, to communicate with the public or to participate in educational projects related to its disciplines. Each year, it deals with a large number of scientific subjects in the form of news items. It participates with CNRS Communication Department (Dircom) in the organisation of events, conferences and meetings. It organises major events within the Institute. It publishes 'La Lettre de l'IN2P3,' which is sent every month to all IN2P3 staff and interested parties. This relays information related to the life of the institute (discoveries, achievements, training, committee dates, events, etc.).

In the laboratories: The IN2P3 communication group relies on a network of communication correspondents and officers located in each laboratory of the Institute. This network ensures the circulation of information, the coordination of common communication actions and the promotion of laboratory activities at both local and national levels, in liaison with CNRS regional delegations.
The communication unit works in collaboration with many other scientific institutions such as CEA and CERN and within international scientific communication and outreach networks such as Interactions, EPPCN and IPPOG.
Want to promote an event or a scientific result?
Please contact your communication correspondent or officer in the laboratory with a description of your event or result, a presentation text in French of about half a page, a draft illustration and an indication of the date of publication, even if this is approximate. IN2P3 and CNRS communication department (Dircom) communication staff will then choose the best channel to promote your news (press release, scientific news “En Direct des labos’' article in “CNRS innovation” or on “CNRS Le journal” website) and will help you with the formatting of your text.
