Theme conferences organised by the SFP's Nuclear Physics Division

From 9:00
to 18:00
Amphithéâtre Charpak 4 place Jussieu 75005 Paris

The thematic days of the Nuclear Physics Division of the SFP will be held this year on the Jussieu campus in Paris on 16 and 17 October 2023. These days are an opportunity to examine the contributions of nuclear physics to health. Over the course of two days, the state of the art will be reviewed in terms of clinical practices and the development of new techniques. New areas of research in radiobiology will also be discussed, as well as the growing involvement of artificial intelligence. The conference is aimed primarily at non-specialists wishing to learn more about the use of radiation in medicine.

This set of presentations covers various aspects of the application of nuclear science to health. Here is a summary of each theme:

Nuclear applications in health:

This section explores the use of radiation in health, tracing its historical development, examining current clinical practices and discussing future challenges, including the integration of artificial intelligence.

Ethical and societal context / Public health and innovation:

The interactions between health, society, ethics and medical innovation are discussed, with a particular focus on the impact of the environment on health and cancer management.

Use of radiation for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes:

This section highlights recent advances in radiotherapy techniques, particularly in internal vectorised radiotherapy, as well as future advances in these fields.

Radiobiology:

This section deals with radiobiology, looking at the sensitivity of cells to radiation, the effects on healthy tissue, and the role of the immune system in the response to radiotherapy.

Modelling and artificial intelligence:

The focus is on the use of artificial intelligence in the medical field, particularly in the analysis of medical images, the simulation of treatments, and the creation of models for more personalised medicine.

Each of these themes offers an in-depth look at current advances and challenges in the application of nuclear sciences to health.
